Prayer for My Beloved Mother

My most respected mother,

I am grateful for your love and patience, which has made me kind and tolerant.

For your protection and forgiveness, which has taught me trust and gentleness.

For your teaching and acceptance, which has made me sensible and understanding.

For your respect and consideration, which has taught me confidence and equality.

For your wisdom and skill, which has made me brave and resolute.

My most cherished mother,

Please forgive my past ignorance, willfulness and impatience,

Which caused you worry, helplessness and disappointment.

Please forgive my past arrogance, defiance and disrespect,

Which left you speechless, anxious and heartbroken.

The debt of gratitude I owe you is as vast as the skies and as deep as the earth.

Today, with a sincere prayer,

I express my gratitude for your nurturing.

I pray for all mothers in the world

To be free from the pain of illness,

To be shielded from the harms of disasters,

To be spared from the troubles of worldly affairs,

To be protected from the snares of enemies.

I pray for all mothers in the world

To be free from all suffering and the causes of suffering,

To find true happiness and the causes of happiness.
